Yushchenko grants Ukrainian citizenship to 230 foreigners

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has signed a decree granting Ukrainian citizenship to 230 foreigners, including eight people under 18, the presidential press service reported on Friday.

Ukrainian citizenship was granted to the representatives of 36 nationalities, of whom the majority are Russians (37%), Armenians (17%), Georgians (9%), Azerbaijanis (5%), and Moldovans (3%).

This year, Yushchenko signed decrees granting citizenship to 2,021 foreigners.

Generally in 2009, according to decisions by the president and interior agencies, over 14,000 people received Ukrainian citizenship. Another 3,230 foreigners were deprived of Ukrainian citizenship.
