The Prosecutor General's Office has decided to investigate allegations of the involvement of former Interior Ministry General Oleksiy Pukach in the death of politician Viacheslav Chornovil, Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko said at a press conference on Friday in Kyiv.

"This information is new to me. I haven't seen it in the materials of the case, that is why we shall investigate this information [further]," he said.

The claim that Pukach might have been involved in death of Chornovil was first made by the politician's son, MP Taras Chornovil. According to him, the general was spying on his father immediately before his death.

Viacheslav Chornovil died on March 25, 1999 in a car accident near Kyiv.
