Poll: Yanukovych, Tymoshenko would proceed to 2nd round of presidential vote

Kyiv, August 11 (Interfax) - Public opinion polls show that Viktor Yanukovych, the leader of the opposition Party of Regions, and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko would proceed to the second round of presidential elections if such elections were held in July.

A consortium of seven companies, including the SOCIS social and marketing research center, the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, R&B Group, the Ukrainian Razumkov Economic and Political Research Center, Social Monitoring Center, Ukrainske Democratychne Kolo, and FOM Ukraine, made this conclusion after polling 18,655 respondents in all Ukrainian regions June 26 through July 9.

The poll showed that Yanukovych would garner 25.8% of the vote and Tymoshenko about 16%.

Arseniy Yatseniuk, the leader of the Front for Change political group, would get 12.3%, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn 3.9%, Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko 3.8%, and incumbent President Viktor Yuschenko 3%.
