Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has called on his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev asking him to help improve the Russian-Ukrainian dialog.

“As president of Ukraine, I am yet again calling on the Russian
president and Russian authorities for stepping up the dialog and
intensifying our relations, which should not be politicized, as it was
done a few weeks ago,” the president said at a press conference on
Wednesday at the village of Velyki Sorochyntsi, Poltava region.

Ukraine suggests intensifying the dialog at the level of the Ukrainian-Russian interstate commission, Yushchenko said.

The Ukrainian president proposed that the groups, which were set up
in the frames of the Ukrainian-Russian commission, should work out
their proposals, hold meetings and then basing on these developments to
hold a meeting of the two leaders.

Yushchenko expressed regret that the visit of the Russian president
to Ukraine has been postponed several times. “Unfortunately, the visit
of the Russian president to Ukraine has been postponed for three
times,” the president said adding that not always there were objective
reasons for this.
