Yushchenko asks regional governors to help him during debate on constitutional amendments

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has asked regional governors to help him conduct a debate on his draft of constitutional amendments.

"I need your assistance in conducting this work in the regions in order to inform the public about a national position on how to change the government and tackle the economic crisis," he said at a meeting with regional governors in Kyiv on Thursday.

Yushchenko said he feared that drafts of the constitution that might be offered by other parties could be drawn up in other countries.

"We run the risk of receiving a document that could be drafted in Moscow or other places and will be submitted [for consideration by parliament] in order to improve the prospects for the political future of two political forces. This would be dangerous," he said.
