Cabinet to demand that Henichesk dairy plant pay compensation for poisoning children in Crimea
Sep 9, 2009 at 14:55 | Ukrainian NewsHealth Minister Vasyl Kniazevych announced this at a news briefing.
"We will raise the issue of the guilty people paying full compensation for the losses that were inflicted on the government as a result of the treatment of those people," he said.
According to Kniazevych, 17 children are still in hospital and their condition is satisfactory.
The government commission that was set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the poisoning of children in Dzhankoi has established that the children were poisoned by kefir from the Henichesk dairy plant.
According to Kniazevych, this dairy plant has been shut down and sanitary officials are currently inspecting it.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Health Ministry recently said that the reason for the hospitalization of 192 children from eight kindergartens in Dzhankoi was consumption of dysentery-infected kefir.
According to the Health Ministry, the infected kefir was supplied to kindergartens in Dzhankoi by the Henichesk dairy plant.
The dairy plant was shut down on September 3 and its employees are undergoing medical tests.
