Gaz Ukrainy, a subsidiary of National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, has demanded that the heads of heat supply companies and the local to pay debts for natural gas consumed during the 2008-2009 heating season.

A press release of the company issued on Wednesday says that the
debt of heat suppliers for gas consumed in the previous heating season
came to UAH 2.7 billion, and the level of its payment is 67%.

The largest debtors are heat suppliers of Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv,
Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Odesa regions. The debt of each region
exceeds UAH 100 million.

Gaz Ukrainy said that the debt of Kyivenergo exceeds UAH 815.5 million, and the level of payment this year is only 59%.

“The accumulation of large debts for gas due to economic
mismanagement and the inactivity of some heads of heat suppliers, often
with the support of the local authorities, makes the residents of many
settlements hostages of the situation,” the company said.

The release says that citizens mainly pay for utility services on time.

Gaz Ukrainy said that debts of heat suppliers for consumed gas make
it more difficult for Naftogaz Ukrainy to pay Russia’s Gazprom for
imported natural gas.
