The Central Election Commission has registered former head of the National Bank of Ukraine Serhii Tigipko as the presidential candidate.

All 15 members of the commission unanimously backed this decision.

Tigipko obtained a certificate of a presidential candidate.

Tigipko, 49, was born in the village of Dragoneshty in Moldova.

In 1982, he graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk metallurgical institute with the profession of engineer of metallurgy.

In 1982-1984, he served in armoured corps of the Soviet Army.

In 1986-1989, he worked as the head of the department for propaganda of the Dnipropetrovsk regional committee of the young communist league (Komsomol).

In 1989-1991, he was the first secretary of the Dnipropetrovsk regional committee of the young communist league.

In 1991-1992, Tigipko was the deputy board chairman of the Dnipro bank.

In 1992-1997, he worked as the board chairman of Pryvatbank.

In 1997, Tigipko occupied the position of the vice prime minister for economy.

In 1999-2000, he was the economy minister.

In 2000-2002, he was a Verkhovna Rada deputy-member of the parliamentary committee for finance and banking activity.

In 2002-2004, Tigipko occupied the post of the head of the National Bank of Ukraine.

In 2004, he was the head of the election headquarter of presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych.

In 2000-2005, he headed the Trudova Ukraina (Labour Ukraine) party.

In 2007-2008, Tigipko occupied the position of the supervisory board chairman of the TAS insurance company.

In 2007 – June 2009, he was the board chairman of the Swedbank.

From March 2008 through July 2009, Tigipko was the freelance advisor of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Tigipko has wife and four children.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Tigipko submitted the registration documents to the commission on October 23.

The presidential elections are scheduled for January 17, 2010.
