Regions Party leader Viktor Yanukovych has said that the demographic situation in Ukraine is unacceptable.

He made the comment while answering questions from the readers of the Komsomolskaya Pravda v Ukraine newspaper on Wednesday.

Yanukovych said that conditions should be created for economic growth in order to improve the situation.

"The birth rate should be increased. The current demographic situation in the country cannot exist any longer," he said.

He said that the Regions Party is planning to create all conditions for the return of Ukrainian migrant workers to their homeland.

"Professionalism and trust in your strength will give us a chance to return able-bodied people to Ukraine," Yanukovych said.

He also commented on how the Regions Party is planning to resolve the task of increasing the birth rate in Ukraine.

"There are several options. One of them foresees that men should work, both in a literal and figurative sense," Yanukovych said.
