Ukraine and Belarus are planning to ask European institutions for a loan to implement a project to build a highway between Minsk and Kyiv as part of the Eastern Partnership initiative.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko said this during a joint press conference with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Kyiv on Thursday.

Yuschenko said that they are planning to participate in a number of joint projects, including the Minsk-Kyiv highway construction.

"We are going to ask European structures to provide a credit to implement Minsk-Kyiv highway project," the Ukrainian president said.

Lukashenko in turn said that if they are unable to find financial support in Europe, Ukraine and Belarus will find the means to carry out this project on their own.
