You're reading: WHO approves of Ukrainian government’s actions in response to flu epidemic

The international mission of the World Health Organization has said that the actions of Ukraine's government aimed at battling the flu epidemic were appropriate.

"We can only approve of the actions of the Ukrainian government that they so quickly and appropriately began to respond to the epidemic," head of the international mission of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, Jukka Pukkila, said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

He couldn’t say what were the peculiar features of the swine flu epidemic in Ukraine.

Pukkila stressed that nine experts, members of the WHO mission, will continue looking into the situation with the swine flu outbreak in Ukraine.

The experts will be studying the rate of the А/H1N1 cases, and the treatment provided to people with flu-like symptoms who have sought help from doctors.

The final results of the WHO investigation will be made public soon, the mission head said.
