Poll: Ukrainians not satisfied with traffic safety

The majority of Ukrainians are not satisfied with the level of road traffic safety in the country, according to a survey carried out by Research & Branding Group.

A total of 79% of polled pedestrians are not satisfied with the safety level of road traffic on the whole, Director of Research & Branding Group Yevhen Kopatko said while presenting the results of the survey at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.

Ukrainian citizens criticized the poor state of the country's roads and its driving culture. According to the 5-point scale, the safety level on roads and the culture of driving were assessed at 2.5 points correspondingly.

A total of 86% of the respondents said human factors were the main cause of traffic accidents, while 38% said the poor state of the road surface caused traffic accidents most often. The three first most dangerous factors that cause road accidents were: driving in a state of intoxication (89%), exceeding the speed (86%) and use of cell phones (38%).

The survey was conducted on October 16-28, 2009 by R&B Group in 25 regions of Ukraine and Crimea. A total of 3, 118 people were polled. The poll's margin of error is 1.8%.
