You're reading: Survey: Ukrainians to spend nearly Hr 2,500 per capita on New Year and Christmas

The average Ukrainian citizen will spend about Hr 2, 500 on gifts, food and entertainment during the New Year and Christmas holidays, or Hr 300 more compared to the previous year.

These are the results of a holiday survey of retail spending and trends of citizens from 18 countries of Europe, the United States and the Republic of South Africa conducted by the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu international union.

According to the survey, an average Ukrainian will spend about Hr 1, 200 to buy gifts, about Hr 850 on food, and Hr 450 on entertainment.

The most popular gifts that Ukrainians plan to buy for members of their families and friends are cosmetics, perfumes, interior decorations and sweets. Books are now the most popular gift in countries of the European Union.

The survey also showed that in the current year Ukrainians are not making "impulse" purchases and plan to buy domestically made goods and food. According to Viktoria Chornovol, a partner of CJSC Deloitte & Touche USC (Kyiv), this means that consumers in connection with the crisis have begun to buy cheaper goods and they have reviewed their attitude towards domestic goods.

Over 700 people aged 18-65 took part in this survey via the Internet, 80% of whom were residents of Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk or Sumy.
