Ukraine will send around 30 soldiers of the Alfa special unit of the Security Service of Ukraine to participate in the EU-led anti-piracy Operation Atalanta.

The National Security and Defense Council adopted a relevant decision at its meeting on Friday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko has said.

"The NSDC decided to send Ukrainian peacekeepers - members of special units - to the Horn of Africa," the minister said.

Ukraine is also considering the possible involvement of Ukrainian surveillance officers into the operation, he said.
