The World Health Organization (WHO) has praised the measures taken by the Ukrainian government to prevent the spread of the flu epidemic in Ukraine.

"Let me recognize the effectiveness and timeliness of all measures taken by the government, as well as the adequacy and timeliness of the sanitary epidemiological service’s response to challenges posed by the pandemic," Deputy Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe Nata Menabde said at a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Nov. 24.

She said that the flu epidemic had been stopped owing to the steps taken by the Cabinet of Ministers.

"Ukraine was the first among all countries from the eastern European region to face the first wave of the pandemic. And it was the government’s actions that helped to curb this situation and prevent it from spreading," Menabde said.
