You're reading: Police opens case against criminal organization in Crimea

The chief department of the Ministry of Interior Affairs in Crimea has instituted a criminal case on fact of creation of the criminal organization "At-Taktif val-Khidzhara" in Crimea.

Hennadii Moskal, the deputy interior minister of Ukraine and the head of the department of the Ministry of Interior Affairs in Crimea, told this to Ukrainian News.

He said the criminal case has been opened on article 255 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the creation of a criminal organization).

Moskal said five members of the organization have been arrested. The other members are wanted.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Interior Minister Yurii Lutsenko in October 2009 said a grouping related to the radical movement of Taliban and Al-Qaeda had been preparing a life attempt on Mustafa Dzhemilev, the chairman of the Mejlis [parliament] of the Crimean Tatar people.

According to Yurii Lutsenko police have arrested two members of the grouping.

Because of information leak from the bodies of the Security Service of Ukraine police failed to arrest the leader of the grouping nicknamed "Red Arab" and his closest accomplice.

According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs, the leaders of the grouping and another 15 members of the grouping are hiding in Crimea.
