Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko has said she hopes the presidential veto of a law allocating UAH 1 billion to fight the epidemic of flu and acute viral respiratory infections will be overridden and that this money would not come from a monetary emission.

"I would like to believe – maybe I’m too optimistic – that the people’s deputies will not commit such a sin against their hearts, consciences and lives as not providing state financial resources," Tymoshenko said at a sitting of the government in Kyiv on Wednesday.

"I would like to say, so as to avoid provocations and insinuations, that theHr 1 billion is not additionally issued money… This is income of the National Bank of Ukraine that should be transferred to the state budget in line with the law," the prime minister said.

According to her, Head of the NBU Volodymyr Stelmakh confirmed the availability of these funds and that they could be transferred to the state budget by the central bank.

An extraordinary meeting of the Ukrainian parliament initiated by the BYuT faction will be held on Thursday to consider the issue on overriding the presidential veto of a law allocating UAH 1 billion to fight the flu epidemic.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted this law on Nov. 3, but Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko vetoed it on Nov. 16.
