Simferopol, December 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira has said that the European Commission has started a project to create an agency of regional development of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

He said this in the European Union information center during a meeting with the students from Vernadsky Tavria National University of Simferopol.

According to him, the European Commission is working on a number of projects that are aimed at rendering assistance to local communities in Crimea. In particular, these projects concern the development of the infrastructure of local communities.

"Moreover, we will start a project on assisting the development of Crimean tourism. The standards of development of the tourist business in Crimea don't meet the standards that were adopted at other holiday resorts, including ones in the European Union," he said.

Teixeira noted that the visit of President of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union Luc Van den Brande to Crimea was made with the aim of realizing a very important project in Crimea that would "launch cooperation between certain regions of the European Union and Crimea."
