Rinat Akhmetov ready to allow club's coach to hold talks on possibility of heading national team
Dec 2, 2009 at 14:09 | Interfax-Ukraine"It's not surprising that Mr. Lucescu is being viewed for the post of coach of Ukraine's national team. Lucescu is a strong and experienced coach who won the UEFA Cup. I was surprised by the form of invitation. I want to say that it's not a professional approach. [Such people] are not invited this way. I held a number of talks with foreign experts and I want to say that if Hryhoriy Mykhailovych [Surkis] invites top experts who are usually busy this way, then I'm sure that nobody will ever get to the negotiating table," he told reporters after a general meeting of the Ukrainian football premier league on Tuesday.
Akhmetov said that it would be wise to change the form of invitation.
"The form of invitation should probably be changed, because otherwise Hryhoriy Mykhailovych will head [the national team] himself. The best people should work in the national team. Inviting a top expert is the duty and responsibility of Hryhoriy Mykhailovych. It's necessary to invite a coach who will bring our national team to a qualitatively new level, rather than create a show of work," he said.
