The Verkhovna Rada has repealed a law on the allocation of Hr 1 billion to fight the flu outbreak in Ukraine.

On Nov. 3 the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill amending the state budget for 2009 to allocate Hr 1 billion from the state budget to fight the flu epidemic in the country. However the president vetoed the bill.

The lawmakers tried to override the president’s veto at a special meeting, however they lacked enough votes and the bill was sent to the budget committee for completion.

At its meeting on Dec. 3, the MPS returned to considering the document, but they again failed to override the president’s veto.

A total of 227 MPs out of the required 300 voted to override the president’s veto.
