You're reading: Sweden: President, government and parliament should unite to reform Ukraine’s economy

Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt of Sweden, whose country currently holds the presidency of the European Union, believes that Ukraine's president, government and parliament should unite to reform the country's economy.

He said this during a joint press conference on the results of the 13th EU-Ukraine summit in Kyiv on Friday.

Irrespective of the results of the presidential elections in Ukraine, the president, the government and the parliament of the country should unite to reform the economy and the energy system, as this will meet the needs of the Ukrainian people, the Swedish premier said.

He also said that the EU delegation intends to meet with the principal contenders for Ukraine’s presidency. However, the EU delegation doesn’t plan to be involved in Ukraine’s election campaign, he said.

The EU wants the January 17 presidential elections in Ukraine to be free and fair, Reinfeldt said.
