According to the latest report from the Health Ministry, some 2.5 million Ukrainians have fallen ill with flu-related illnesses since the swine flu epidemic began in late October.

The ministry has attributed almost 500 deaths to acute respiratory illnesses, which continue to exceed the epidemiological threshold in seven of the country’s regions.

Ukraine’s parliament has rejected allocating Hr 1 billion to fight the flu pandemic after passing an amendment to the 2009 state budget on allocating the funds on Nov. 3. President Victor Yushchenko vetoed the measure, and lawmakers refused to reconsider the bill.
