Naftogaz denies appearance of possible mediators in gas import to Ukraine

National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy follows the clear orders of the government regarding not using mediators in the delivery of natural gas to Ukraine, according to a report of the company as of Dec. 16.

"Naftogaz reminds that gas delivery to Ukraine is conducted in line with the long-term contract with OJSC Gazprom as of January 19, 2009. The agreement doesn't foresee the attraction of mediators to the process of delivery. Naftogaz was determined as a single supplier," reads the company statement.

Naftogaz stressed that the joint position of the government and the company lies in direct deliveries of the Russian gas without any mediators.

"Taking into account that such statements on gas mediators are voiced at the height of the election campaign, Naftogaz again calls for politicians, agencies of the state power of all levels and experts to stop piling on the tension around the company's activity," reads the document.

As reported, Bohdan Sokolovsky, the Ukrainian president's envoy for international energy security, said that the entourage of Premier Yulia Tymoshenko is considering the attraction of the Itera Company as a foreign mediator of gas supplies to the country in defiance of the position of the heads of Naftogaz.
