A winter storm blanketed Kyiv with a half a foot of wet snow on Dec. 29. Thousands of trees fell down during the storm, snarling traffic and making some downtown sidewalks impassable. Meteorologists predict colder temperatures and more snow through New Year's Day.

Detailed weather forecasts for Ukraine can be found at gismeteo.ua and meteoprog.com.ua.

The Emergency Ministry reported power outages in 1,077 populated areas in 14 oblasts. Vinnitsya and Kyiv oblasts were particularly hard hit.
