Fifth round of negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union for an agreement on common air space will be held in Kyiv in March, Ukrainian News has learned from the press service of the Ukrainian ministry of transport and communications.

According to the agreement, in 2009 they reached considerable progress in the talks on signing of this agreement.

In 2009 they held two rounds of the negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union for this agreement.

Upon results of the last, fourth round, held in December 2009, the sides agreed that the ultimate goal of the document would be full harmonisation of common flight safety standards.

In Ukraine these standards will be implemented in keeping with the transitional arrangements, which will be stipulated by this agreement.

The next round of the talks was planned for March 2010.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, President Vicor Yushchenko in October 2008 ordered the ministry of transport and communications, the ministry of foreign affairs, the ministry of economy, the ministry of justice, and the ministry of industrial policy to ensure that the talks on signing of the common air space agreement continue in 2008 and in 2009.
