Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko took part in the opening of the State Center for Innovative Biotechnologies on Wednesday. The center was opened on the basis of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine's Academy of Agrarian Sciences, a correspondent of Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"One of the main directions of work of the State Center for Innovative Biotechnologies will be the creation of medicines and vaccines that could be used to fight against various infectious diseases," Tymoshenko told journalists at the opening of the center.

She also explained: "We're opening a special laboratory with European standards as part of this state center of biotechnologies, where it will be possible to conduct all types of research without exception and where it will be possible to produce scientific developments."

At the same time, the premier said that the center was not starting its work from the very beginning, as some achievements, such as the medicine Leukozav, have already been made.

According to the creator of the medicine, Fellow of Ukraine's Academy of Agrarian Sciences Anatoliy Zaviriukhin, Leukozav can be used to treat oncological diseases at various stages, as well as prevent them.
