You're reading: Health Ministry: Death toll from flu, respiratory infections in Ukraine rises to 1,014

The number of those who have died of flu and flu-like illnesses in Ukraine has increased to 1,014 people as of Jan. 20, the Ukrainian Health Ministry's press service has reported.

Eight people, including a child, have died of flu and its complications (pneumonia) over the past 24 hours, the press service said.

According to the ministry, the epidemic threshold was exceeded in Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk, Poltava and Sumy regions.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic (October 29), over 4.367 million people have contracted flu and respiratory infections, including 43,450 people over the past 24 hours.

The ministry publishes no separate statistics on cases of A/H1N1 influenza or swine flu.
