The Party of Regions' campaign headquarters has asked the Kyiv city administration for permission to stage a massive rally outside the Central Election Commission building in Kyiv on Monday, head of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's Public Security Department Volodymyr Mayevsky said.

The application for the rally of 50,000 participants, starting at 9:00 a.m. local time on February 8, was submitted with the city administration on February 3, he said.

"There have been reports that several buses are departing today [on Sunday] to bring supporters to take part in this rally," Mayevsky said at a press conference on Sunday.

Currently, hotels and sanatoriums are accommodating around 3,000 people, who participate in the rallies taking place in the Ukrainian capital, he added.

If the number of protestors increases, police reserves will be employed, Mayevsky said.

To date, more than 70,000 police officers across Ukraine have been called in maintain order.
