Dnipropetrovsk, February 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The prosecutor's office of Dnipropetrovsk region has opened a criminal case on an explosion at a residential building on 13 Pushkin Street in Ordzhonikidze, Dnipropetrovsk region in line with Article 194, part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional destruction or damage of property via arson, explosion or other dangerous actions that caused deaths or other serious consequences).

Deputy Chairman of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration Victor Serheyev told journalists about the opening of the case at a briefing on Feb. 8.

According to him, the commission working at a site of the blast, is considering several possible causes of the blast, one of which is a gas explosion.

He noted that a total of 14 people were rescued. Six of them were hospitalized.

According to him, a sixty year old woman, who at present is in an intensive care unit, had turned on a light in her apartment immediately before the blast occurred. A gas meter had been changed in this apartment on the evening of the blast. The Emergencies Ministry is working at the site of the explosion.
