You're reading: Health Ministry confirms 1,093 deaths from influenza and acute respiratory infections

The Health Ministry has confirmed that 1,093 people died of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in all the 24 regions of Ukraine as well as in the cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol, and the Crimean autonomous republic from October 29, 2009, to February 15, 2010.

The ministry announced this in a statement.

Since October 29, 179 deaths have been confirmed in the Donetsk region, 107 in the Lviv region, 65 in the Kharkiv region, 54 in Kyiv city, 52 in the Dnipropetrovsk region, 46 in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, 46 in the Zaporizhia region, 43 in the Kyiv region, 42 in the Cherkasy region, 42 in the Chernihiv region, 42 in the Crimea, 37 in the Kirovohrad region, 37 in the Volyn region, 32 in the Odesa region, 31 in the Khmelnytskyi region, 28 in the Vinnytsia region, 27 in the Chernivtsi region, 26 in the Ternopil region, 25 in the Rivne region, and 22 in the Sumy region.

Moreover, 19 deaths from influenza and acute respiratory viral infections were confirmed in each of the Poltava and Mykolaiv regions, 18 in the Zhytomyr region, 17 in Sevastopol, 16 in the Kherson region, 12 in the Zakarpattia region, and 9 in the Luhansk region.

Seventeen people have died in the past 24 hours (the same last week, from February 8 to February 15), including 7 in the Donetsk region, 4 in the Chernihiv region, 3 in the Odesa region, and 1 each in the Lviv, Kharkiv regions and in Sevastopol.

In total, 5,158,306 people have contracted influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections since October 29, including 235,234 in the past week.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, 301,107 people have been hospitalized, out of whom 276,763 have been discharged from hospital.

As of February 15, Odesa region exceeded the epidemic threshold and Volyn region was on the epidemic threshold.

The situations in all the other regions are favorable.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Health Ministry had confirmed 1,076 deaths from influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in all the country’s 24 regions, the cities of Kyiv and Simferopol, and the Crimea as of February 8.
