You're reading: Crimean parliament appeals to Constitutional Court against Bandera glorification

Kyiv, February 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Supreme Council of Crimea has filed a query with the Constitutional Court of Ukraine asking it to recognize unconstitutional a decree of Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko dated January 22, 2010, about awarding the Hero of Ukraine title to Stepan Bandera.

This decision was supported by 79 out of 85 members of the Supreme Council of Crimea, who took part in the voting on Wednesday. Two deputies voted against.

The Crimean parliament also sent a request to President-elect Viktor Yanukovych asking him to repeal the president’s decree on awarding Bandera Hero of Ukraine, and a decree dated January 29 2010 honoring participants of Ukraine’s struggle for independence in the 20th century.

A total of 64 members of the Crimean parliament voted for this decision, with two voting against.
