Outgoing Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko has offered to establish a central executive agency that will take charge of state language policy, develop state target programs, and take steps to support public initiatives on the language issues.

This was stated in the decrees posted on the official site of the head of state on Feb. 22.

Yushchenko also proposes the launch of a constructive dialogue between the central authorities, local governments and non-governmental organizations to settle language issues.

Relevant bills are to be prepared and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada to implement the measures specified in the decrees.
