You're reading: Update: Acting Premier Tymoshenko to take a vacation, Turchynov to head government

Ukraine's Acting Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko intends to go on vacation, whereas Acting First Deputy Premier Oleksandr Turchynov will head the government, a source from the government told Interfax-Ukraine on Mar. 3.

According to him, Tymoshenko announced this decision during a meeting of the Ukrainian government, which was dismissed by parliament this day.

"In this case, Oleksandr Turchynov will be acting prime minister," the source said.

At least ten of the acting ministers told Interfax-Ukraine that they were not going to go on vacation and will continue working.

Acting Justice Minister Mykola Onischuk said Turchynov needs to gather at least 13 acting ministers in order to pass valid decisions.

"We are ministers who are continuing to carry out their duties," he told reporters when asked what the government’s current status was.

The Ukrainian constitution stipulates that before a new government is endorsed, the outgoing Cabinet must stay on as a caretaker government.
