Ukraine's President Victor Yanukovych has said he will oversee the humanitarian sphere.

"I will personally take care of this issue, I will be occupied with the humanitarian sphere," he said at a ceremony for awarding national Taras Shevchenko prizes in Kaniv on Mar. 9.

The president said several national councils would be created which will "work out various directions of support and development of the humanitarian sphere".

He also noted that proposals elaborated by these councils would be the basis for the decisions aimed at supporting this sphere, and would form the basis for legislation.

Yanukovych said the proposals of national councils would be reflected in the law on the foundations of domestic and foreign policy.
