Communists call for annulling decrees on awarding Hero of Ukraine to Bandera and Shukhevych
Mar 10, 2010 at 11:44 | Interfax-Ukraine"These decrees cynically offend sacred feelings of veterans of the Great Patriotic War..." the MP said.
Tsarkiov noted that the communists consolidate the efforts of all "healthy patriotic forces of the Ukrainian society" in order to correct the situation.
The Communist Party also calls on the Ukrainian parliament to form together an official address to President Yanukovych with a request to annul the decrees awarding the Hero of Ukraine to Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych, Tsarkiov said.
Former Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko conferred the rank of Hero of Ukraine to Bandera on January 22, 2010. The European Parliament criticized this decision by Yushchenko and expressed hope the new leadership [Ukraine's President Victor Yanukovych] would deprive Bandera of the title. This is stipulated in a European Parliament resolution on Ukraine, which was supported by the European MPs in Brussels on Feb. 25.
