Turkish Foreign Minister said he regretted the incident and said that security measures had been tightened at Ukrainian diplomatic establishments . Ukrainian Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu have discussed in a phone conversation an incident in the Ukrainian Consulate General in Istanbul that occurred on March 9, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

The Turkish Foreign Minister said he regretted the incident and said that security measures had been tightened at Ukrainian diplomatic and consular establishments in Istanbul and Ankara.

The sides also discussed the consequences of the earthquake in eastern Turkey on Mar. 8, as a result of which dozens of people were killed.

"Poroshenko assured that Ukraine is ready to render needed assistance in combating the consequences of this terrible tragedy," the ministry's press service reported.

As reported, a Turkish man armed with a pistol broke into the territory of the Ukrainian Consulate General in Istanbul on Tuesday and fired several shots at diplomatic mission employees. The consulate's security guard returned fire at the assailant. According to mass media, the attacker later died in hospital of his wounds.
