Ukraine's National Agency for the Efficient Use of Energy Resources and the Austrian Energy Agency (AEA) have signed a memorandum of understanding on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.

Head of National Agency for Efficient Use of Energy Resources Serhiy Yermilov and the Austrian AEA's Deputy Director Herbert Lechner signed the document in Kyiv on Wednesday.

The memorandum outlines the framework and key priorities for the development of cooperation between the two country's energy agencies.

In particular, the agencies agreed to open educational centers for training managers and experts in the field of energy conservation and energy efficiency.

According to Yermilov, Ukraine is to host 27 such centers.

In addition, the parties agreed to cooperate in improving municipal heating systems and housing utilities through the introduction of new technologies and equipment, in particular with the use of bioenergy and cogeneration technologies.

The two agencies also agreed to work together to improve Ukrainian legislation in the area of energy efficiency and alternative and renewable sources of energy, and bring it into line with European legislation.
