Ukrainian population shrinks by 30,000 to 45.93 million in January

The population of Ukraine totaled 45.93 million as of February 1, 2010, according to a posting on the official Web site of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine.

A total of 45.96 million people lived in Ukraine in January, according to the statistics committee.

The urban population of Ukraine was 31.51 million people as of February 1. The population decreased by 180,800 people in 2009.

Some 15,220 marriages and 9,300 divorces were registered in Ukraine in January. The marriage rate is 3.9 per 1,000 people, and the divorce rate is 2.4 per 1,000.

According to the latest population census, some 48,457,100 people lived in Ukraine as of December 5, 2001.
