(News story updated with details)

The European Broadcasting Union fined the Ukrainian National Television Company on March 22 for failing to submit a song for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest within the established period.

This was announced in a statement posted on the official Internet website of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The deadline for submitting entries for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest expired on March 22, but Ukraine did not submit its entry by the deadline.

As a result, the European Broadcasting Union fined the Ukrainian National Television Company and will continue to fine it for every day of delay in submitting a song.

The size of the fine was not disclosed.

The European Broadcasting Union also said that all the 38 remaining participants in the contest have already submitted their songs.

According to information from the Ukrainian National Television Company, the European Broadcasting Union extended the deadline for Ukraine to submit its documents to March 29.

The European Broadcasting Union also allowed the Ukrainian National Television Company to pay the fine after the song contest. According to the Ukrainian National Television Company, this means that the company will not have to pay the fine with state government funds but with the money that the international sponsors of the Eurovision Song Contest will transfer to the company.

According to the information on the official website of the song contest, Ukraine’s representative will be the eighth contestant to perform in the second semi-final on May 27.

The European Broadcasting Union is the organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ukrainian National Television Company decided on March 22 to replace the song that Ukraine’s representative Alyosha (Olena Kucher) will perform at the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest because the song did not meet the requirements of the contest.

Alyosha will represent Ukraine in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo after winning the finals of the Ukrainian national competition on March 20.

The Ukrainian National Television Company declared Vasyl Lazarovych as Ukraine’s representative for Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in December 2009 without holding a competition, but television audiences selected a song rather than a singer to represent Ukraine in the contest.

This decision caused indignation within the show business circle.

The National Television Company of Ukraine announced a national competition for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on March 17.
