You're reading: Yatseniuk sees no prospects for reforming Ukraine without fight against corruption

Front for Change Party leader Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that it will be impossible to create a national anti-corruption committee for conducting reforms in Ukraine without combating corruption.

"In my opinion, it will be impossible to carry out any reforms in the country if the issue of overcoming corruption is not resolved," he said at a roundtable, entitled "The acceptability of the Georgian anti-corruption experience for Ukraine," in Kyiv on Monday.

Yatseniuk said that Ukraine had no real system for combating corruption.

He said the first step in the fight against corruption should be the creation of a national anti-corruption committee. Yatseniuk said that it would also be impossible to fight corruption without changing the country’s system of government.

"The system of government in Ukraine has in fact remained the same as it was under the Soviet Union. The names of institutions have changed, but their essence remained the same," Yatseniuk said.
