You're reading: Foreign Ministry orders to promote relaxing visa requirements

As the European Commission's decision on relaxing visa requirements for foreign nationals is a recommendation, and each country of the Schengen area has the right to consider the recommendations and take a respective decision on its own, and Ukraine's foreign diplomatic institutions have been instructed to conduct work to ensure a positive solution to this issue in the interests of Ukrainian citizens, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service reported on Tuesday.

As reported, the European Commission decided to recommend that EU member states relax visa requirements for foreigners who cannot travel in transit or leave the territory of the European Union due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland. In particular, the commission recommended that the holders of short-term Schengen visas be provided the opportunity to stay in the Schengen area until the normalisation of air traffic without having to apply for an extension of their visas, and the passports of these persons should be stamped upon exit without considering these persons as having stayed beyond the authorized period.
