You're reading: Monument to Stalin unveiled in Zaporizhia

Zaporizhia, May 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A ceremony to mark the unveiling of a monument to Joseph Stalin was held in Zaporizhia on Wednesday, May 5.

The half-scale figure of Stalin with pipe in hand was installed on a stone base near the recently constructed building of Zaporizhia regional committee of the Communist Party at Kommunarivska Street. The total height of the monument is about 2.5 meters.

The opening of the monument took place to the sounds of anthem of the Soviet Union. Honourable quests included veterans of the Great Patriotic War (Second World War).

First Secretary of Zaporizhia regional committee of the Communist Party, MP Oleksandr Baburin took part in the event. He told journalists the monument to Stalin was erected at the request of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and the Communist Party initiated the collection of funds for its construction.
