In the margins of the Military Committee in Chiefs of Defense session, Ukraine and Turkey (as the facilitating NATO member) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Air Situation Data Exchange (ASDE) on May 5, 2010.

The agreement was signed by General Ivan Svyda, Chief of the General Staff – Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on behalf of Ukraine in the Brussels’ NATO headquarters, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s press service has reported.

According to the document, air situation data will be exchanged between the South air command center of Ukrainian Air Forces and the control and notification center of the Air Forces of Turkey in the city of Erzurum in Turkey.

The signing of the memo is an opportunity for Ukraine to exchange air situational data with NATO in regions defined by the two sides both on the territory of Ukraine and neighbour states – Alliance members. It is a concrete example of cooperation in air terrorism fight, says the report.

"Our cooperation with NATO in this director would provide for security of all citizens who use air transport, including Ukrainian citizens traveling by air," Svyda said.

This is a second memorandum as a part of Ukraine’s participation in the NATO’s Air Situation Data Exchange program. The similar memo is in effect between Ukraine and Hungary.
