Russia and Ukraine "will not be friends against anyone," Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.

"We agreed that we would not be friends against anyone, while all decisions will be taken to protect our national interests," Yanukovych said at a joint press conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Kyiv on Monday.

In his words, Ukraine and Russia are maintaining partner and good neighborly relations.

"They [the relations] have been restored, and now we hope that they will give a positive effect this year," Yanukovych said.
