You're reading: International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine: Police interfere in realization of medical programs

The interference of the law enforcement agencies in the realization of medical programs of replacement supportive therapy of HIV-infected patients with hepatitis and tuberculosis, will have negative consequences, Executive Director of an international charitable foundation "The International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine" Andriy Klepikov has said.

"Before now we hadn’t seen such pressure as has been observed in recent months. In fact, this concerns interference from the side of the law enforcement agencies in the realization of medical programs of replacement supportive therapy. A systematic approach is seen, in particular, the detention of doctors and patients," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

According to Klepikov, the pressure on medical employees and patients of narcological dispensaries is taking place across Ukraine.

He noted that the national program of replacement supportive therapy, as well as international donor programs, could be put off track by such actions.

Klepikov called on the law enforcement agencies, the Health Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers to take measures to stop interference in the realization of these programs.
