You're reading: One killed, three missing after floods in Chernivtsi region

Electricity supplies have been restored to Chernivtsi and all 114 towns and villages in seven districts of the region, which were blacked out as a result of the heavy rains on the night of June 29, the Emergencies Ministry's press service reported on Thursday.

The Emergencies Ministry’s units together with operational teams of Chernivtsi Regional State Administration rescued 1,083 people, including 90 children, one person was killed and three went missing.

A total of 27 towns and villages in the region are still partially under water.

According to the Emergencies Ministry, the floods have completely destroyed 31 residential houses, and partially destroyed five buildings, destructed six motor bridges, damaged four motor and two railway bridges. Besides, 11 kilometers of motor-road pavements and 630 meters of dams are still out of order.

A total of 1,951 people, 314 items of machinery, 19 waterborne vehicles and aircraft equipment are involved in the cleanup operations.
