You're reading: Yanukovych signs law simplifying import of goods to organize and hold Euro 2012

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has signed a law "On Amendments to Some Laws of Ukraine on the Organization and Holding of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship Finals in Ukraine" which simplifies the procedure for importing to Ukraine goods needs to organize and hold Euro 2012.

A corresponding law, No. 2372-VI, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on June 29, 2010, was signed and posted on the official Web site of the president on Wednesday.

The law adds item "sch2", which assigns goods imported by UEFA (except for excisable goods) under customs procedures for imports under Article 11 of the Law "On Organization and Holding Euro 2010 the European Football Championship Finals in Ukraine," to Part 1 of the Article 19 of the Law "On Common Customs Tariffs." Volumes and procedures of importing of such goods are to be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers, and a list of such goods with corresponding codes of Ukrainian Classification of Goods for Foreign Economic Activity (UCGFEA) will be determined under another law.

According to the new version of item 11.48 of Article 11 of the Law "On Value Added Tax," goods exempt from import duty shall be exempt from VAT according to item "Sch 2" of the Law "On Common Customs Tariffs."

The new version of the Article 11 of the Law "On Organization and Holding Euro 2010 the European Football Championship Finals in Ukraine" stipulates that "goods imported (reimported) to organize and hold the Euro 2012 finals shall undergo a special procedure of collection of import tax and VAT." A person authorized by UEFA and participants of the championship (apart from the Ukrainian team) have the right to import such goods without payment of import tax and VAT.

Means of transport used by UEFA will be temporary imported and will not be used for commercial purposes (to obtain income).
