The Ukrainian Health Ministry has proposed taking a number of measures to reduce the adverse effects of the current heat wave in residential buildings, public buildings, and offices.

The ministry’s press service reported that that the sanitary service had recommended that sunscreen devices be installed on the windows in houses and offices and proposed that windows be tinted.

It is advised to use individual air conditioners and central air conditioning, cooling and ventilation systems in houses, along with electric fans.

The ministry proposed introducing the administrative regulation of working conditions in offices, in particular, reducing work hours, changing the time of the start and end of the working day, and using cool rooms where people can seek relief from the heat.

It is also recommended that lunch breaks be increased to three or four hours – from 13:00 to 16:00 – the hottest hours of the day.
