The heat wave will last for at least ten days in most regions of Ukraine, with the highest air temperatures in the east, northeast and centre of the country, head of the Ukrainian weather forecasting center Mykola Kulbida has said.

"The heat wave in most regions will continue for at least ten days. The highest temperatures – 32-37 degrees Celsius – are forecast in the east and northeast, and up to 40-42 degrees Celsius is forecast in the central regions.

The lowest temperatures are expected in the west – 28-33 degrees Celsius. Rain and thunderstorms are expected only in western regions," he said.

On August 8-9 the air temperature in Kyiv region may slide by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, Kulbida said. However, up to this date and afterwards the temperatures will remain at 32-37 degrees.

Asked about fire risks, the he said that the risk of forest fires would be extremely high in eastern, northeastern and central regions of Ukraine.
