The smoke from forest and peat fires in Russia is not expected to return to Ukraine next week, Chief of the Ukrainian Weather Forecasting Center Mykola Kulbida has said.

"Today, the air masses will move to the east… A return of smoke is not expected next week," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Kulbida noted that present conditions would mean the smoke seen in Kyiv and Chernihiv regions would be blown over Belarus.

"The situation with improve in this way," he said.

He noted that smoke was still being seen in these regions.

Kulbida also said that the risk of outbreaks of fire would not fall for the next ten days.
